Vizontele was shot in location in Gevaş, Van. Shooting began in August 1, and included a 65 person crew, 50 actors and more than 1000 extras - as well as over a hundred local personnel hired for transportation, set building, security and accomodation services.
Technical teams from Turkey, Britain, Ireland, Yugoslavia, Belgium, France and Germany participated in Vizontele.
Production was completed in less than two months using a Moviecam SL and an ARRI BL-4. Several scenes were shot with double cameras. A steadycam operator and a highly experienced sound crew from Britain brought in considerable technical expertise to the shooting.
Vizontele signifies a number of pioneering steps for Turkish cinema. It is the first feature-length Turkish movie to succesfully employ 800 ASA high-sensitivity tungsten film which made it possible to use natural lighting with japanese lanterns, bird torches, hand-made flourescent and ralina lights, and miniflo lamps for indoor or night scenes. Vizontele had a total of 148 KW arrays for lighting. Weekly shots went to the Soho Images labs in London for video printing, and were flown back to Gevaş for on-the-spot monitoring, so that any scene that didn't measure up could be re-shot right away.
Flyingcam also made its first appearance in Turkish films with Vizontele. And the Hi-Tech Oscar winner Flyingcam chopper camera team put in their longest stint to date with a film; the team ordinarily works one or two days for a movie, but they were on duty for a full five shooting days for Vizontele.
Lastly, Vizontele tied up Turkey's only remote-controlled giant Swiss-jib crane for a whole month.
